Vanilla cake can be layered with a variety of fillings and toppings. Here&#8217;s how to make this versatile cake.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"western\">Ingredients:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>200g self-raising flour<\/li>\n<li>200g butter (and extra for coating the cake tins)<\/li>\n<li>160g caster sugar<\/li>\n<li>3 eggs<\/li>\n<li>1 Tbsp vanilla extract<\/li>\n<li>4 Tbsp milk<\/li>\n<li>\u00bd tsp baking powder (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 class=\"western\">Method:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Preheat your oven to 180 C<\/li>\n<li>Grease two 8-inch cake tins with butter and line the bottoms with parchment paper.<\/li>\n<li>Cream the sugar and butter together using a mixer. When light and fluffy, you&#8217;re ready for the next step in this vanilla sponge cake recipe.<\/li>\n<li>Add the eggs one at a time followed by the vanilla essence. Mix well.<\/li>\n<li>Add the sifted flour and baking powder before mixing well with a spatula or spoon.<\/li>\n<li>Add the milk and mix well until everything is thoroughly incorporated.<\/li>\n<li>Divide the batter between the two tins.<\/li>\n<li>Bake the cake in your oven for 25 \u2013 30 minutes. Perform the skewer test in the centre of the cake to test if they are baked all the way through.<\/li>\n<li>Remove your cakes from the oven and allow to cool for a few minutes before removing them from the tin.<\/li>\n<li>Place on a cooling rack.<\/li>\n<li>Slice the cake as needed, make your favourite frosting and create the most delicious layered cake!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Remember, you should use an electric mixer for most of the recipe. When you add the flour, it&#8217;s better to fold the mixture together using a spatula instead. It&#8217;s also good to make sure that your ingredients are at room temperature before you begin. Another important tip for this vanilla sponge recipe is to always use a kitchen scale rather than cups.
