While many changes have occurred over the years, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.prestigehampers.co.uk\/\">gift hampers<\/a> remain a popular choice for all occasions. In the past, traditional hampers were carried in a wicker basket and filled with a variety of goodies. They served a practical purpose years ago whereas, today, they are thoughtful gifts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The first hampers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Most likely one of the very first recorded uses of a hamper can be\ndated back to the 11<sup>th<\/sup> century. William the Conqueror is\ncredited for bringing them to England. The word hamper actually comes\nfrom the French word &#8216;hanapier&#8217; which means &#8216;a case of goblets&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was not until the Victorian period that hampers became popular\nas gifts. The wealthier families would put baskets of food and\nbeverages together for their employees around Christmas time. With\nthe advancing railway system, sending hampers over longer distances\nalso became possible. This made the gift even more popular. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hampers with imported goods<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Over time, it became even easier to obtain goods from other\ncountries. This meant that the contents of these gift hampers became\nreally diverse. Initially they were thought of as Christmas gifts but\nsoon people started sending them for other occasions like birthdays\ntoo. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hamper history and the Red Cross<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>During the first World War, hampers were donated to the Red Cross.\nThey were to be sent to soldiers and prisoners of war abroad. These\ncare packages offered a much-needed taste of home. What many people\nmight not know is just how much these hampers did for the morale of\nthose on the front lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Modern gift hampers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Today we are fortunate enough to enjoy a wide variety gift hampers\nand gift baskets that can easily be delivered to just about any\ndestination in the world. Online hamper shopping is quick, easy and\nconvenient. With a matter of a few clicks, you can find the perfect\ngift hamper, make your purchase and rest assured that it will be on\nits way to the recipient as requested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The history of hampers is a long and fascinating one. The idea\nseems quite modern to many of us today but, when we take a sneak peek\ninto the past, it&#8217;s clear that hampers really have been around for\nhundreds of years.
