Different seasons welcome different types of fruit. Of course, when our favourite fruits are in season, we might become a bit over enthusiastic by purchasing large quantities. Fresh fruit does not last forever and, if you want to avoid anything going to waste, you could try freezing some.
\nOne of the most popular types of fruit to freeze are berries. This is because berries do not last long as fresh fruit and within a matter of days they can spoil. Firstly, berries can benefit from a vinegar and water wash to slow the growth of bacteria or mould. If you have a lot of berries, you can take it a step further and freeze them in portions. Do not freeze all of your berries in a single bag or container or else you will need to thaw it all out together too. Thawed out berries are great for use in desserts, sauces, and pies, to name a few.
\nAnother good tip to remember is to wash your fruit and dry it thoroughly before freezing. You should obviously remove any non-edible skins and, if you have a specific purpose in mind, you may even want to peel your apples before freezing. For example, if you want to use your apples to make apple sauce or apple pie, the skin from this fruit is best removed. You can remove the core and cut the fruit into smaller portions too.
\nSome other examples of fresh fruit that you can successfully freeze include pineapple, kiwi, mango, peaches, nectarines, oranges, and bananas. Frozen fruit is excellent for a number of uses and you can even use it in its frozen state as part of your favourite fruit smoothie recipe.
