Important binding agents include egg, cream, and butter. \nStuffing was initially intended for filling the bird. However, if you are expecting several guests, the small amount of stuffing that you get inside the bird won’t suffice. Especially if you have a particularly mouthwatering recipe! So, by all means, stuff that bird but make plenty of extra stuffing and bake it in a separate dish. This is also seen as a healthier option since the separate stuffing is cooked without the added fat from the bird itself. Sure, the stuffing in the bird might have extra flavour but it also has extra calories. So, if you’re watching your waistline, opt for the separate stuffing and let other guests at the table tuck into the bird stuffing.

\nA wonderfully basic stuffing recipe involves melting a large stick of butter in a deep pan or pot before adding 2 cups of diced onion and 2 cups of diced celery. You then add two apples (chopped) and a tablespoon of minced sage and a tablespoon of minced thyme. Add some salt and pepper before cooking together for about 5 minutes. Hereafter, add 3 cups of chicken broth and simmer. Whisk together 2 eggs and \u00bc cup of chopped parsley in a bowl. Add 16 cups of bread cubes. Use regular white bread and make sure that it’s a bit stale rather than super fresh. It will add to the firmness of the stuffing. Now add the broth mixture to the bread mixture and toss it all together. Transfer into a oven safe dish (about 3 quarts) and bake (covered) for 30 minutes. Remove the cover and bake for another 20 minutes or until the top is nice and brown.
